Fabriholics Anonymous January Check-In

So - it's time for the check in!

I'm linking up to Rebecca Lynn: Fabriholics January Check-In

Also linking up the the Fabricholics Anonymous Flickr Group

So far, I've finished 22 projects - with out buying any fabric! -- Anything from lanyards, to bedroom curtains, to a t-shirt quilt! Most of them are posted here on the blog, but all of them are posted on my Fabric Fast '14 Pinterest Board

I'm pretty happy with my decision to fast on fabric purchases - so far, so good.

I've also added notions to my list - and I've only bought a couple of things that qualify there:
January 1st - Sulky Sticky+ Tearaway Stabilizer $15.65 (Then I organized a bit and found two more rolls! - Which is why notions are now on my list...)
January 1st - Pinwheels and Daisies Quilt Pattern (from Red Pepper Quilts) $8.50
January 8th - Ginger Seam Ripper Replacement Blades $11.73
January 20th - Babyville Turtle Snaps $6.41

I also went to Target yesterday and found these great little bins in the dollar section:

And used them to transform this mess:

Into this happy little bit of organization:

I still need to work out a solution for the Velcro/Elastic/Zippers/Webbing mess.  The other bins I got yesterday didn't work out as planned so I'll be returning those.

All in all, a very good January so far.  It really feels good to clean up, finish up, and save a little money. Hopefully this feeling continues!

  2. Thanks! It's a total work-in-progress - but I already feel better about my sewing space. And knowing what I have helps me to not want to buy any more (or duplicates!) supplies.

  3. Congratulations on not buying fabric! You were a very busy lady to get all those projects finished! Lovely organization, I am jealous!

  4. Thanks! The snow days have really helped my quilting world - though our school world was pretty chaotic today as we scrambled to get caught up. I always feel better when things have a home and a place to live - I'm an organizer at heart. =)

  5. I have everything organized except the top of my sewing/cutting table. It is driving me nuts but I have not done anything about it yet. There is always the weekend.

    1. That's a great "final" project for organization. I feel like my desk always has a little something extra going on, but hopefully as some of these projects clear out, that backlog will clear out too. =)

  6. Isn't it wonderful how a bit of organization can make us feel so good? You have been doing a great job on your fast. I bought one fat quarter as my entrance fee into a Brown Bag group - have to support the quilt shop that hosts us - left it at the shop and have not purchased any fabric. The quilt I am making in the Brown Bag group is totally from stash!

    1. I'm such an organizational nut! I can tell that I need to focus on this aspect more at home, in the studio, and at school. Just today I had a little fit over my teacher desk area - it looks like a teenage bedroom! If we go in tomorrow, I'll try to remember to snap a picture.

I'm really trying to focus on baby steps and little projects that will eventually add up to a finished, organized basement/studio, and a fully functional classroom. =)

    1. Those bins from Target were perfect - they were two for $1 and they fit perfectly in my Ikea Expedit drawers. I'm not going to pretend I didn't go back again yesterday (so that means trips to Target Wednesday and Thursday) to get a few more to help organize my scrapbooking area as well. It always feels so good to find a system that works.

    1. Thanks! I'm feeling a little guilty since I have spent a little on notions/patterns, but that amount is still far for what I usually spend on fabric!

  10. Congratulations on the success on your fabric fast so far. I know how hard it is. And wowzer, you have been a whirlwind at getting projects completed. Pat yourself on the back.

    1. Thanks! Really I have to give the weather credit for the productivity. But it has been fun logging all the different completed projects. :)
